Jean-Michel Basquiat - short powerful artistic flash in art of 80 s

He was born in 1960 and was successful artist who was creating in neo-expressionism.
In 1980s, his works were in galleries and museums all around the world. At the age of 21 he became very famous and respected by all American art society.

He was centered on the exploring polarities - wealth&poverty, segregation&integration, inner and outer world. He was a mixture of all possible and different kind of art - painting, drawing, poetry, images, texts - you could find all of it in his works. His visual poetics were strictly political and so true in his criticism of colonialism, supporting class struggles.

Basquiat was died at age of 27 from heroin overdose in 1988. Some people said that it he continued drugs to use in a way of coping after the death of his friend Andy Warhol in February 1987. Before his death, last 18 months he have been as a hermit.

After that time his art increased in value. In 2017, work Untitled, a 1982 painting was sold for a record-breaking $110.5 million, becoming one of the most expensive paintings ever purchased.

His life was short but full of colors, experience and he was in love to different kind of people. He was attracted to intelligence more than anything else. And he felt pain of others as he had his own more than normal person could handle. He always could find people of his tribe who were one of a kind, people who had a unique vision of things.

Who knows - what else he could created if his life would be longer? Or maybe it was meant to be - to have such a colorful, powerful but short life?

I think that it is tragic that Basquiat died at such a young age, especially considering how successful and well-respected he was. I also think that it is a shame that he felt the need to use drugs in order to cope with the stress of his life and career.
