Wool is an American artist who inspired by graffiti, pop culture and commercial painting.
He lives and works in New York City and Marfa, Texas, together with his wife and fellow painter Charline von Heyl.
One of his art work "Apocalypse Now" is a 1988 painting among the most important of his "word paintings» which was created late 1980s.
It consists of the words "SELL THE HOUSE SELL THE CAR SELL THE KIDS»
The quotation is from the 1979 Francis Ford Coppola movie Apocalypse Now, where it is written in a letter mailed home by a character who has lost his mind in the jungle.
This art work was sold first time to Werner and Elaine Dannheisser and its price was around $7,500. And in 12 November 2013 it was sold to to an unnamed buyer
for $26 485 000.
Now you could also invest in his word paintings and his large-scale gestural abstract works which are commercially desirable.
On November 18, 2021, one of his art work Untitled (1995) from the Spray series was sold at Sotheby’s for $13,190,250.
