Say, you are a seasoned investor, and you've got your eye on a few startups. But how do you find the best ones?

There are different ways that you can do this:
  • Look at the companies that are already successful, and see what they did right when they were starting out. You'll want to emulate their successes as closely as possible in order to get similar results for yourself. This means doing research on what types of startups have been successful in the past (and how), and then finding some way to replicate that success for yourself.
  • You can also look at some of the bigger companies out there who are doing well with their investments and see which ones they're investing in now—then go out and talk to those founders about what makes them successful (and what doesn't).
  • Meet people who have started up companies before, either through your own network or by attending conferences where they speak (or both). The more people you meet like this, the more likely it is that someone will mention something helpful along the way—and then all you'll have to do is take notes!
